Context

Caja Popular Mexicana is one of the leading savings and loan cooperatives in Mexico, with more than 70 years of experience serving its members.
Headquartered in León, Guanajuato, it has a nationwide presence through a broad network of branches, offering accessible and reliable financial solutions.

Caja Popular Mexicana is dedicated to promoting the economic and social development of communities through products and services such as savings accounts, loans, and personalized financial advice. Recognized for its commitment to financial inclusion, Caja Popular Mexicana integrates technology and innovative processes to guarantee an efficient experience tailored to the needs of its members, consolidating its position as a leader in the cooperative sector.

02

NEED

Before implementing the Correspondent Banking system, Caja Popular Mexicana faced the need to offer more accessible and flexible options for making deposits to savings accounts or loan payments. In many cases, this meant that customers had to travel long distances to a branch, which generated inconveniences such as lost time, additional transportation costs and limited service hours. This situation was even more challenging for those living in rural areas or far from urban centers, where access to financial services is more limited. There was a need for a solution that would allow these operations to be carried out securely and efficiently, without interrupting members’ daily activities.

Solution

The proposed solution was the development and implementation of the Correspondent Banking system, which allows Caja Popular Mexicana members to make deposits to savings accounts and loan payments quickly, securely and conveniently through an extended network of points of service. This was achieved through a strategic alliance with Cadena Comercial OXXO, integrating a technological platform that directly connects the transactions made in the stores with Caja Popular Mexicana’s system.

The proposal included:

  • Expanded access: The habilitation of thousands of points of service throughout the country, available 365 days a year, with longer hours than those of traditional branches.
  • Operational efficiency: An online system that guarantees the immediate updating of transactions, reducing waiting times and risks associated with cash handling.
  • Convenience and reach: A service that brings financial transactions closer to members, eliminating distance barriers and improving the user experience.

This solution allowed Caja Popular Mexicana to meet the needs of its members in a more agile way, improve financial inclusion and optimize its operational processes.
